The Hamlet Foundation was founded in 1954 by a group of parents whose children were exempted from normal schooling. It has grown and developed to include a school for 270 intellectually disabled children, a residential centers for 54 intellectually disabled adults and a protective workshop for 200 intellectually disabled adult workers.
Our focus is on development and empowerment of the individual towards achieving their maximum potential, enabling them to lead as normal a life as possible. A support system is provided to siblings and parents and to the broader community,
The foundation is responsible for meeting the shortfalls on the budgets of all three centers which are partially subsidised by the government. We are totally dependant on the generosity and support of the corporate sector and the general public for the funding that enables us to sustain our services to this very vulnerable sector of society. We are totally multiracial and ensure that our services are accessible to the poorest of the poor.
