In honour of her 82nd birthday, Neelawathie Jungiah, together with her daughters and grand-daughters; Nazreen Achcha, Sunitha Davdath, Aanisah Ebrahim and Zareena Achcha prepared biryani and cup-cakes and served lunch to the residents of the Hamlet Foundation.
“There is no better way to celebrate life’s blessings than by sharing them with others. For us, this was more than an act of charity—it was a celebration of kindness, gratitude, and the values our mother and grandmother instilled in our family throughout her life,” said the family.
“Spending time with the residents reminded us that a shared meal is about far more than food. It is about dignity, connection, and making people feel valued and included.”

Ms Jungiah and her family prepared the biryani over a fire and with the assistance of her daughters and The Hamlet staff, she served the meal to The Hamlet’s residents.

Zaheera Achcha, the owner of Luxe Patisserie, and her mother, Nazreen Achcha, sponsored a selection of home-made cupcakes for dessert.
The experience reinforced an important lesson: Every person deserves to be treated with respect, compassion and warmth. The family said, “We left inspired by the resilience, joy, and spirit of the residents and were grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside the dedicated staff and volunteers who make the Hamlet Foundation such a special place,” the family said.
“We hope our family’s celebration encourages others to mark life’s milestones in meaningful ways. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply giving your time, even the smallest act of kindness can make a lasting difference.”
